9000 Rear Caliper Adjusting Screw Problems Posted by Methuselah [Email] (#3033) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Methuselah) on Fri, 7 Jul 2023 04:04:11 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have what seems to be a common problem with the rear brakes on my 1997 9000, the handbrake on the right side does nothing, and I can't fit a new inner pad as the adjusting screw doesn't seem to allow the pads to fully retract. I am starting to run out of worn inner pads!!
I have been trying to free the assembly up, and can move the piston inwards to what seems to be close to the limit of it's travel, and then return it back outwards and I can compress the piston back in using a clamp.
Parts are a problem in Australia, I am wondering if anybody has information on how the adjustments actually work - I gather that some of you have been able to recondition these calipers, any information would be most helpful, especially pictures of the actual components.
Are there any similar brake assemblies on other models of cars - one local mechanic has suggested that this system is fitted to other vehicles besides SAABs, but he can't recall specific vehicles.
I have 3 SAABs, this 1997 9000 LPT has done 362,000 km, my 1992 9000CS has done about 280,000 km, and the 2002 9-5 Aero Estate 329,000 km
Any information greatly appreciated,
Many thanks
