How to clean out old gasoline? Posted by Bill Homer [Email] (#3427) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Bill Homer) on Tue, 12 Sep 2023 19:20:27 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I just acquired another white 1994 9000 Aero Manual - and this one has fewer miles and looks to be in better shape than mine (which is pretty nice)! We'll see soon. So I will now own 2/150 of all white Aeros in the USA!
Unfortunately, after a no-start situation this car has been sitting unused for the past five years, so I presume that whatever gasoline is in the tank is quite spoiled. Before I gum up the fuel injectors, how do I go about clearing out the old gasoline? My Volvo 1800E has a drain on the gas tank, but not there on a 9000.
My idea:
1. charge or replace the 12V battery
2. remove the fuel filter under the right rear floor, put a suitable container there to catch the gas.
3. jumper across the fuel pump relay (or connect a wire across the appropriate fuses) to energize the fuel pump. Pay close attention to not overfill the container.
4. replace fuel filter
I'm not sure what to do about the fuel line forward of the filter, nor about the fuel rail or the injectors.
Any good tips?
