Light knocking 2300-2700 RPM '97 CS 5 speed Posted by Nixter [Email] (#680) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Nixter) on Fri, 1 Dec 2023 14:03:54 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
The vehicle - 1997 9K CS 5 speed with 251K. Recently I noticed a sound of what appears to be a light rod knock in the 2300 - 2700 RPM range only. This sound occurs whether fully warmed up or just started cold.
I changed out the oil & filter (2500 mi since last change) with no shrapnel found - that was a good start. Oil pressure at idle is about 7 pounds and hits about 10 pounds per 1000 RPM up to about 35 PSI max. Changed oil & filter with 20W50 for now as a test. Oil pressure still good - about 15 pounds at idle up to 40 max.
Still getting the same knock from 2400 to 2700 RPM. Since this occurs under a limited RPM range, would this possibly be the timing chain slapping? To note - the timing chain & guides were replaced about 8,000 miles ago.
As a precaution, I ordered new Sealed Power bearings which I will roll in when they come in next week.
A short video is below. HIGH VOLUME WARNING! (for headphones)
