On my 96 Aero the crank position sensor, when standing in front of the car and facing the engine, on the front of the engine below the exhaust manifold, towards the right. It's held in my a T27 torx bolt and also a 10mm bolt holds the cable down nearby. It plugs in near the oil dipstick tube. The cable is routed under the intake manifold but in a pinch you could route a replacement over the intake manifold if you just need to get the car moving, ie stuck along side the road. Recommend having a flashlight and something to clean your hands. I just replaced mine and plan to make a kit to keep in the car in case I need to replace it again at some point. Definitely can replace in a parking lot if you have the tools. Will need to wait for the exhaust manifold to cool down of course.
