Crutchfield is right for 2 reasons. First, you could not find a ready made connector to send a preamp signal from the radio to the clarion amp. And if you could, the voltages would probably be wrong.
Also, that amp is not powerful enough to be worth any effort.
In my 93 9000, I installed a Denon head unit with an internal amp (many very high end stereo don't have an internal amp, so you have to use them with an amp, but most moderate and low end radios include an internal amp, allowing you to run speakers right off the radio). The Denon is louder, clearer and produces better bass than the factory unit (including underseat amp) that it replaced. I ran speaker wires from the back of the radio down to the output at the under-seat amp. I cut the output wires at the under-seat amp, and connected the wires from the radio to the wires running to the speakers.
I may have made this more confusing than it actually is. Feel free to email me for clarification.
I fully endorse Crutchfield. They are not the cheapest, but their after sale support, even years down the road, is worth whatever price premium there is.
