update on 2nd gear grinding

The folks at Eriksson Industries thought the grinding when shifting 1st to 2nd was entirely consistent with the 2nd gear synchro having failed. For those not familiar with this thread, we had all discussed bad clutch master cylinder or slave cylinder as well. This was a rebuilt 5 spd from Eriksson for a '91 9kt which started this grinding problem after only 2k miles. If shifting at very low rpm in 1st, no grind, but if going above 4000 rpm (with either full or very light power, made no difference), even if pausing in neutral until rpm's down to idle, grindola. Never had grinding while shifting at standstill, never when downshifting, and only in the 1st to 2nd shift.
Long story kind of short, Eriksson Industries provided a new 5 spd under warranty and has promised to pay about half the installation cost. Not ideal, but considering that only the transmission was warrantied, not a bad deal. They told me that it is standard practice to only replace a synchro if it meets certain wear dimension guidelines, which surprised me, since this is one of the major wear items in a standard transmission. Maybe they're expensive, I don't know.
The transmission went in yesterday and shifts fine into 2nd. I'm back in happy Saabland. Thanks for all your help.
