cold dash problems

My 1992 9000T has developed an interesting quirk. When the outside temperature drops below freezing the dash gauges (electronic display, fuel & temp) remain inoperative until the car reaches operating temperature and I turn the cabin heat on. Once warmed up they "pop" back to life. This began a couple of years ago but the gauges and display have become increasingly more temperature sensitive. Thanks for any ideas regarding this problem.
