My DI cassette on my '91 9kt failed at about 110K miles. I noticed a little missing, took out the plugs to gap them, noticed two of them were gapped way too tight (just bought the car one month before), re-set to the low side of specs (1.0 mm), and the missing became much more severe. I did notice a little oil around a couple of the spark plugs. Had an appointment to get the tranny changed that night, so had to take it in running badly, long story, etc. :(
It would barely run on the way back. New DI cassette was curative. The old cassette had a cord which was hardwired into the cassette, and the new one had a separate cord. Getting the old cord out of the connectors behind the battery is lots of fun. They slide upwards from their mounting, I finally found, and once you get them out you can separate the connections.
good luck.
