On my 91 9kT, the two little tab thingees on the hatch which clearly are intended to hold the deck firmly in place can rattle quite loudly. It seems that with time and use, these tabs or brackets or whatever you care to call them get a bit bent and/or loose where attached to the hatch.
There was a string perhaps a year ago about this, along with various people's solutions. My own solution is to have a cord rug (which is about the same color as the deck itself) hang over the back edge of the deck. The rug takes up the slack in the tab thingees, with the result that they don't rattle.
