One for the REAL mechanics!

After replacing AMM, AIC, cleaning the throttle, replacing all vacuum lines, checking for play in the timing chain, a bad distributor, I’m wondering if a erratic idle is just the curse of the older 2.0 engine. I have the cold start blues which I have never been able to get rid of. Recently, the base idle crept up (1100 rpm) and I took it to the mechanic. He readjusted the idle and checked the timing and everything else. For a week the car idled fine, but still hunts/starves in the morning until warm. Now the idle progressively creeps up as the car warms. Not dramatic, around 900-1000 rpm. I should note, occasionally the idle drops back down to 875-950 rpm, but then may be back at 975 rpm. Could that be a bad O2 sensor? Something sticking? I have checked the AIC already and throttle switch. I have not checked the NTC sensor which could explain the cold start blues, but doesn’t explain the creeping idle as it warms. The car runs perfect when warm, but I am stumped at what else I should check having checked the AIC, AMM (co2 adjustment), base Idle, timing, cracks in the dist. cap, etc, etc. Should I leave alone and put up with the cold start? I have checked various sites here regarding the cold start but I have done everything they suggested. really need some input. Forgot to mention that I have noticed when I am coming to a stop as the idle is falling back down it stops briefly at 1200 and then falls down to base. Again. something sticking?
