86 9KT : Flooring the accelerator in any gear will move the APC gauge only 1/2 through yellow and when RPM reach 4000 - 5000 the power falls off , almost like running on 3 cyl or wastegate opening . Repaired sticking wastegate shaft that was rusted solid (it would not budge) . I do not know if it was stuck open or closed so while I was at it I adjusted the shaft shortning it by 2 turns . This seems to have lowered my base boost (with the elect. solenoid disc.) from 5 PSI to 4 PSI :the opposite of what I had read on this BB !
All hoses have been checked out as have ignition wires . New BCP7ES plugs installed . Under the dash I can find the APC unit which seems tightly connected and the "pressure transmitter" with its 2 hex nuts for the elect. connections but I cannot see or reach the other end to check the vacuum hose .Is this the "pressure transducer" mentioned in the FAQ APC section ? Also I can't even find the "vacuum switch" which is in the same place and should have its hose checked .
Regarding the solenoid valve (on the rad. fan casing). The 3 hoses go to (1)the wastegate actuator diaphragm (2)the compressor housing (3) the inlet tract between the AMM and the Compressor .When energized , the high pressure from the compressor goes to the wastegate actuator closing the wastegate .The hose from the inlet tract is closed . When de-energized all 3 hoses are connected allowing the high press from the comp. housing to escape into the inlet tract thus allowing the wastegate actuator to colapse allowing the wastegate to blow open . Am I missing something here ? Why would shortening the actuator rod to the wastegate increase basic boost ?
