I solved the problem, it turned out to be the temp switch on the radiator that failed. It was rather unusual because it did not just fail completely and just not turn the fan on, it had a partial contact that must have produced too much resistance for the fuse to handle and it failed.
I put in a new temp switch at the radiator and it is working like a champ.
