AM radio static

My '95 Aero radio(am)picks up the heater fan as interference and
broadcasts it . When I recently replaced the radio/cassete I noticed the
antennae lead that plugs into the back of the unit also
had another cable attached to it. I presume this is the am antenna. It has
a rubber boot over the end, and was tie wrapped to the cable that plugs into the radio unit. My question- was this tie wrap from the factory, or did a mechanic merely attach it for convenience, and by placing it under the heater control box, it picks up the interference. FM reception is fine, this is only am. My other vehicles do not have problems receiving am signals.
By the way, I listed here with a problem - my sound system had no sound- everything else worked. It turned out to be the radio . I swapped with a friend's 96 cs, and proved mine as bad. Same radio in cs/cse/aero, but the ones without cd don't use all the plugs in the back.
thanks for help, and any info
