...instead of having two equally sized turbos the Supra has "sequential" turbo charging. The idea is that there is a small turbo to provide good low RPM power and quicker spool up and then there is a large turbo for when the throttle really goes down. It sounds like a pretty clever set up to me, and I'd bet the small turbo working much of the time really helps the efficiency of the engine too. From what I understand most twin turbo set ups are designed more to minimize turbo lag than to maximize power. One large turbo can make tons of boost (like early 911 Turbos) but two smaller turbos can make the same amount of boost with quicker spool up times. I guess Toyota took this idea one step further by using diferent sized turbos down stream of one another. Since Trionic came out Saab seems to be doing a great job of minimizing spool up time. The new 9-5s even have a clever feature built into their drive-by-wire system which gives more throttle than the driver asks for at low engine speeds and then eases up as boost builds to make the acceleration more linear. Neat stuff.
