Nivomats are a self energizing load leveling shock. They use the motion of the shock to restore the ride height to normal. They were also used on Volvo 760 series cars. As you have found out they are not cheap. As to the labor, I cannot comment. When I replaced the Nivomats on a Volvo 765 wagon I had, it required the replacement of the rear springs. The Volvos with Nivomats had softer rear springs and the shocks supportted part of the load. If you did not replace the springs, the car would sag in the rear. I do not know if the 9K would need spring replacement. BTW even though the Nivomats are expensive, mine did not require replacement until 120K miles. I heard of some who replaced theirs at 75K. For me it was a lot cheaper to grab a coule of springs from a 745 than to replace the Nivo's.
