I did car-audio for 12 yrs as an MECP, competed for and won several IASCA trophys, trained at Rockford Fosgate, Kenwood, Alpine, Sony, attended EE seminars and recently finished my CS degree minoring in electronics and I still scratch my head when confronted with "whine". You can drive yourself crazy trying to get rid of it.
Derek's problem is likely being caused by AC being induced into a circuit either because of proximity to something that is electrically noisy or by a ground loop that was magnified by the replacement of his DI cassette/Plugs. My money is on the ground loop. I would check the deck connections in the sleeve first... like TKC said, they are notorious for becoming loose and making partial high resistance contacts. If that isn't it, I would ground the deck,EQ,CD chassis' to a good clean grounding point. NOT the negative post of the battery. The metal frame of a car is far better at providing the best ground than any gauge or type of wire. Anyway, sorry for the rant...
Good luck!
