Jason,
I have done some of the mods you discussed. From Accelerate Response in Ontario I got some ROH 17" rims. They look somewhat like some rims I have seen on Mustangs, but different enough that know one will confuse the two. The nice thing about AR is that they machine the rims to fit...i.e. they are hub centric and require no spacers. I think the width of my rims is 7". Instead of pasting the cheesy ROH logo in the middle, I ordered 4 Saab emblems (the kind on the hatch with the red chicken) and stuck them on. It adds a nice touch and in my opinion decreases my "rice" factor. I am running Firestone SZ-50s in 215/45/17 and an quite please with them.
More recently I bought 4 drilled rotors and some high performance pads from AR. I have not installed them yet, but I got them with Cadium plating so the the part that slips down over the hub (the only visible part of the rotor other than the part that is always shiny from use) doesn't get rusty. I have seen some stuff on this board about drilled rotors that crack, but I have also seen posts that say it doesn't happen if they aren't abused (i.e. don't leave the house when its 10 degrees and do a panic stop from 100 to 0). Since I have no experience, I can offer no advice on performance. At this point I will wait to spring to install them as I am just about to go back to my stock rims and snow tires.
One caution on the 17" rims: ride is rougher, car will follow depressions in the road, will get more attention (sometimes not desired). Also I had to move an emergency brake attachment bracket on the right rear of my car. No big deal, I just had to slide it forward about 2". The bracket started to scrape the rim when the car was pulling a trailer with two motorcycles and the hatch was full of tools, gas cans, pop-up awnings, helmets and leathers. I deserved to have something scrape!
