Those that pooh pooh block heaters have never had the pleasure of having one. The jury might be out on whether it saves wear on the engine .. I would think it has to .. e.g., if it is 20 F outside, and the heater brings your block up to 150, thats an 130 difference. Anyway, it cant hurt. But even so, the pleasure of getting into a car that warms immediately on a cold morning is great ... especially as you drive by all those pooh-poohing your block heater. And yes, LU, there are battery blankets and trickle chargers to keep the battery up too. Living in Alaska, one gets to appreciate these things.
