Cold Start or Angry SAAB?

My car was very unpleased this morning on the ride to school. I had started it up five minutes before leaving as I usually do. The conditions outside here in New England were cold (10 degrees F) and the car had been sitting for approximately 10 hours straight (overnight). When I started it, I didn't notice the noise, but once I began to drive, I noticed a high pitch whining noise what sounded like it was coming from the climate control vents. Immediately I turned the climate control to off thinking the noise would diminish. However, the noise continued without and difference in pitch. Once I arrived in the school parking lot, I let the car sit for a couple more seconds and the soon after switched the engine off thinking the sound would disappear. To my dismay, the noise had continued for a few more seconds and then slowly went away. It had only been like two or three seconds more, but it was weird. When I left school at around 1:30PM, it was about 32 degrees F and the sound had completely diminished. Has anyone had this happen to them before? Or is this a strange occurance? If anyone knows where this sound came from, please let me know ASAP. I am not worried, just wondering why it did this on this one occasion. Other condition (if they matter): Very low fuel tank. Possible two gallons or less remaining. Hope to hear from someone soon. Thanks!!
