Who did the oil changes? If an outside source, did you keep receipts? If you did it yourself you'll only need receipts for the oil and filters. This is pure BS. Saab requires oil and filter changes at 10k intervals (after the first), and they don't specify synthetic oil.
Personally, I wouldn't allow fossil oil to stay in the crankcase longer than 3k miles, but if you can prove you've performed the oil changes the Saab dealer doesn't have a leg to stand on. Advice to call Saab USA is a good one, as I wouldn't let this go. Also, Dick's advise to run a sample of the old "gummy" oil through a lab is sound, as was the suggestion to
run some flush through it.
Following this ordeal and after you get the crud cleaned out, use a quality synthetic from then on and change it and the filter every 10k.
