good all season tire recommendation

I'm looking to put good all season tires (upstate NY) on my '90 9k.
I bought the car a few months ago and knew that the rears tires were worn. The front tires are in good shape but they do not seem to have a relatively aggressive tread. They are General XP 2000 GT, which are nothing special, discontinued, but available.
My Question:
Should I replace all 4 tires at the same time which seems like an expensive/wasteful route or just get 2 new ones.
My desire is to have high quality tires all around.
Any suggestions?
TIA
Bob G.
