Turbo boost

The other day, I put the spurs to my '92 9000T, and as the turbo got to full power in 2nd gear, I felt a sharp, sudden loss of acceleration. I let off the gas, and everything was fine after that (although I was afraid to hammer it again).
So the next day I did a few test runs to see where the boost gauge needle went. (This might sound stupid, but since I'm 6'7", I can only see the APC/Turbo gauge if I slump down and to the left a bit...i.e., I hardly ever look at what gauge is doing). It turns out that the needle goes deep into the red, and when I floor it in 3rd, it stays there, unless I let off the gas.
I'm starting to wonder if my car is 'over-boosting' (like THAT's a problem!), and that when I had that sudden power loss the other day it was actually some sort of fuel cut out system kicking in. Again, in the past three days, the car runs fine and fast.
Any ideas from the Saab-pro's here?
Thanks.
