Q. for those who've had steering morning sickness...

To those of you who've experienced the classic 'morning sickness' with your rack and pinon steering; what other effects have you noticed?
My '86 9kt exhibits, on a regular basis now, an initial resistance to right turns when starting up in the morning if it's below freezing. I usually start the car and let it idle for some time before pulling out under such conditions. This does lessen the effect, but it's still always very stiff when turning right the first time. After that, it seems OK.
The reason I ask is because my car shakes noticably when driving at highway speed. Now before anyone chimes in with this suggestion; I just had all 4 wheels balanced two days ago. The high speed shakes diminished considerably, but there is a persistent 'looseness' that develops into a good shake between 75mph and 80 mph that hasn't been eliminated yet.
I've had just about every other component in the front end checked or replaced within the past year. This includes control arm bushings, tie rod ends, rotors, pads, sway bar links and bushings, ball joints, inner drivers, and outer CV joints, and even 4 out of 4 motor mounts (two hydraulic and one top mount). The only things left are the rack, the struts, and the top strut mounts.
Anyone else had this happen to them? If so, did doing an r&r on the rack solve this problem? I have a used rack on hand. I just want a better idea of whether or not this will help before I buy the rebuild kit and spend lots of hours doing something I could let be for a couple of more months.
Thanks, and cheers to all!
-Ben
