Erwin, I agree with you. I tried to follow the Townsend instructions and could not do the repair.

The telescopic part has to be removed from inside the motor. It cannot be pulled out. The bottom end of this telescopic part is swedged so it cannot out pop out (as suggested by Townsend). I used a Dremel tool to cut off the telescopic part as close to the motor assembly body. Then I simply pushed it in with motor assembly taken apart and it came out. The new assembly also has to be inserted from inside also. You will notice it is not possible to push it in as suggested by Townsend (due to the sedged end). Once it is in, extend it and start the threaded rope around the geared wheel. Then power up the antenna and close it. The rope will catch and wind itself properly. Then you close the motor. I did all this with antenna on the trunk floor.
