installing new gasket. Before, when Saab had to torque head bolts on the 1000 mile. Silicone sealant was used as a good measure. Silicone sealant isn't necessary if you clean well, remove all oil on sealing surface, install a new gasket and tighten uniformally. Gaskets are generally good for five or six years before they start weeping at the cam cutouts. start in the middle around the plug cavity torque slight hand tight then tighten the ourtside perimeter same way then starting in the middle inside torque in an opposite cross fashion until you reach 15 ftlbs. The secret is not so much the torque as is the uniformity and proper sequence. Try to keep the gasket free of oil and you will have a better seal. New gasket snaps into place-the kit is about $42.00.
