This almost happened to the mirror on the passenger side. I noticed the mirror vibrating coming back from New York over a year ago. I stopped at an Amoco station, pulled the mirror glass off. I used the Clear RTV adhesive to put it back on. I used a folded paper towel as a wedge under the glass to keep it from shifting down, after the adhesive did its initial set. I pulled the paper towel the next morning. The RTV has the stick power, has some flexibility and is waterproof. That is why you use it for your molding too.
