Attempting changing DI....

When passing a line of cars the other nite with the stereo turned up...barely made it past them. Upon turning the sound down i realized she was only running on about 2 or 3 cylinders. Once home opened the hood and engine was shaking like a pop corn popper at idle. Im assuming the DI is bad. How dangerous is it to test the DI by the recommended method of grounding to the battery neg terminal. Do you ground all four at once or one at time? If i see oil around the plugs is that a sure sign that the DI is shot? I havent had a chance to have a look at it ...will check the plugs of course first...im almost hoping its the DI ..its a $300 fix..relatively quick...and if not the diagnostic fee will be more im sure. Any suggestions are greatly appreciated thanks.
