You didn't mentioned what model year you're working on, which may make a difference. I used 100/80W bulbs in my '91 throughout my ownership (8 years), and found the plastic connectors to melt in time, not the wiring.
Feeling strongly about the difference in light output, I rigged a quick-connector setup so I could replace the connectors quickly without soldering, which was required about once per year.
If I had to do it over again, I'd stick with stock bulbs, or go with E-code. I had E-code on my '86 and the pattern was so superior it didn't need higher wattage bulbs. My '95 Aero, OTOH, has an excellent pattern and throw on high beam, though the low beams could use some improvement. This car uses two bulbs per side. Unlike the other two 9K's I've owned, I don't feel the need to change bulbs in this car.
The reason I mentioned that the year model might make a difference is that the connectors on this '95 are different from the '91, and they may be able to handle the extra amperage these high-output bulbs require. I don't know, but I doubt if I'll try it, especially on the low beams. They run at all times, even when the highs are on, and also run as DRL's--so any amperage over the specs on the connector or wiring may well show up as a failure in this case.
