quasi has a nice writeup, as does townsend but basically, if you wan't to check fan operation, pull the low speed and/or high speed relay's (next to battery)
and jump where pins 30 + 87 go. THis should run the fans.
In order to check the relay I went to the connector for the fan thermoswitch and bridged each wire to the black (1 for high speed, 1 for low speed) Unfortuneately I had to remove some of the plastic stuff under the radiator to get at the connection- it's about 12" back if you follow the fan thermoswitch wires the connection runs around the oil cooler to a junction under the passenger side of the radiator. If this test causes the fans to run, one can assume the relays are okay (which in my case they were) I'm off to buy a new thermoswitch (and the electrical connector I had to break to get apart)
