My 1994 9000 CS with 80K miles is getting near the trade-it-or-aggressively-preserve-it point. I don't see anything else appealing out there to buy, so I'd like to preserve it.
It had a new clutch and muffler at ~50K (clutch probably my fault--I have mended my ways--really!). At 75K it got some new hoses and a new serpentine belt. Otherwise no major repairs and little misbehavior.
It has had a very slow coolant leak (less than a gallon a year) for a few years. The mechanic at the Saab dealer (where it has been getting all service) says that the leak indicates a heater core problem and that the heater core will probably need to be replaced one of these days. Also suggested replacing the timing chain if/when the heater core is replaced.
Oh, and this week it's displaying "refusal to turn over/start" problems, but I'm assuming this is minor. Also the driver's window sometimes gets crooked when rolled up.
So my questions for any list members who care to provide advice are:
Do these models have the potential to go a few more years?
What preventive maintenance should I be doing?
Should I get the heater core done ASAP?
Should I get the timing chain done too?
Thanks.
