I bought the car with 153k, and wanted to do a tune up, so I decided to change the distributor cap and rotor and plugs, air filter, fuel filter, etc. Put the new cap and rotor on and got the spark plug wires crossed. Rotor wouldn't fit well, as it was non oem. Put the old rotor back on and it idled very roughly. Then I reconfigured the wires correctly, and it wouldn't start after that rough idling scene. Put on a rebuilt distributor b/c the connector on the side broke and I thought that might have messed up the hall-effect system. Now the rotor seems to be out of timing b/c when the 16 appears in the flywheel window, the rotor is about 180 degrees from the mark on the distributor, where the rotor should be when #1 cylinder is TDC. I guess the timing chain could have broken or skipped/jumped? Anyone had their timing chain jump?
Thanks!
KEnn
