Just returned from a very nice tour of Cleveland and Catawba, No.
Carolina. My '92 9kt has been 'slightly' modified - a 3" turbo-back
exhaust and a TAQ-reprogrammed ECU have enabled this vehicle into
producing 228 hp @ the wheels. Well, it made this trip effortless -
I was able to cruise from MA to Cleveland in eight hours. Catawba,
No. Carolina to MA in 12 hours. Despite the horsepower this engine
produces, I was able to average 28.5 miles per gallon. My average
speed was probably 75-80 mph - this included the hills through W. VA,
and N. Carolina. Most of the time, I was doing about 85-90. Here's
what makes it even more incredible. From N. Carolina, the vehicle
was loaded with not one, but two Paraclipse 12' C-band satellite
dishes. These dishes are aluminum, but have steel mounting hardware.
I'd say there was about 400 lbs. of added weight with these two dishes.
Now, tell me: what other vehicle could do this - transport two satellite
dishes over 900 miles, averaging 80 mph @ 28.5 mpg? Even with all the
weight, I managed to have some fun. There were a few vehicles that
tried to 'play' with me. On a long and straight highway, going uphill
in the mountains, there's more than one Mustang that experienced the
sound of a 3" JT exhaust growling in their face as I pull away! And the
$40-60K BMW's, and Acuras that are so common in NJ, NY, and Conn. were
absolutely no match. Anyway, 1900 hard highway miles with Saabrina
has confirmed how much I really love these Saabs!
