>> May be for a 92, but what about a MY98?
The service manual I have doesn't discriminate between year models, but nowhere is a 0w40 listed. I wouldn't say that a 0w30 would be bad for your engine, but I wouldn't use it in this climate (Deep South)--maybe in Antarctica, Siberia, or on Mars. But it's your car, so decide what's best and go for it. I use 15w40 here in this moderate (except summers) climate and have been getting excellent lab results that show almost no wear (low iron), no viscosity breakdown, little oxidation, and low contamination in 10k miles. I see no reason to change.
>> If you go and buy Saab's own turbo-oil, it's a 0W-40.
I didn't know that, nor do I know anything at all about Saab's new oil.
Do you live in the U.S.?
>> ...I see no probs in using 0W-oils.
Could be that you'd have no problems at all. All I'm saying is that I wouldn't do it and it is out of spec for my car. If I went out of spec, I'd go heavier, not lighter.
>> I used Mobil 1 0W-40 in my old 900 Turbo16 -85....
I've never seen Mobil 1 in this viscosity, though maybe it's available in other parts of and/or outside the U.S. All that I've seen here is 10w30 and 15w50.
