You have been turned around and let loose. A reputable garage would have used a special dye and black light to check for leaks in your A/C system. Which by the way is required by law. Once it is determined there are no leaks they can recharge your system. In 1998, the clutch on my compressor went out. I replaced it with a rebuilt I bought for about $308 delivered. I went to my Saab indy. He installed the compressor a new rec/dryer, evap coil and charged me for one lb. of R-12 for about $400. The R-22 should have never been in your system. R-22 is used for home A/C units. I replaced mine last year and my stepson installed it. We bought the 3 ton 10 SEER unit at the same wholesale place for $365 including a free
tank of R-22. If your compressor leaks, you may have to replace it. The rec/dryer and evap coil should be replaced and R-134 is cheaper than R-12.
