Poor handling - 93 CSE

So far I know I have an outer tie rods problem, will fix that soon, but am wondering about general poor handling - leaning on turns, serious understeer, etc. I got some bushings for the rear sway bar and front control arms and maybe some others, can't remember now, but haven't put them on yet, so will probably try that soon.
But I'm also starting to wonder if the springs are bad, especially in the rear. Front seems OK, at least there is minimal brake dive, that is a good test of the front springs, no? How can you verify springs while they are on the car? How can you run some general tests to diagnose suspension component issues? Jack up the car and start trying to move things around? Driving tests? The springs may be original, so maybe they have softened up considerably in 8 years and 170k miles? I doubt the shocks are original given the milage, though they may still be in need of replacement.
I've only had this car for 3 months so I have no basis of comparison. I have the standard 15x6 wheels with 205/55 ZR15 Bridgestone RE71 tires ... thanks ...
