Would appreciate diagnoses advice on a puzzling problem.
I am experiencing a short lull in power delivery during acceleration. Maybe one to five seconds and then power suddenly comes back in a surge. Happens intermittently. Boost gauge is showing normal boost levels, even during the power lull. This is not the "missing" that I had when my Ignition cassette went bad. It almost seems like some automatic system is cutting back on the throttle. BTW I do not have TCS.
Problem developed after I accidentally snagged an empty garbage bag that was flying around on the freeway and the bag melted all over the exhaust's bellows expansion joint. I got under and had to use a Propane torch and scraper to get the stuff off. I cant help thinking the rocking and pushing on the exhaust and engine may have loosened or cracked a vacuum hose. Checked vacuum hoses and everything seems good (as far as I can see). I disassembled and cleaned the compressor dump valve (hooter valve?) but problem persists.
Going under the car again tomorrow to take a look from that end. Any suggestions of what to look for?
