As the ex-owner of a 96 328is and a current Aero owner (my son totalled the 328, but that's another story) I know what it is like to put pedal to the metal in both. The 328 is a very well sorted chassis, and in the dry would put down its power very well, with only some wheelspin to get it rolling in standing starts. I find the Aero takes more skill to launch smoothly. Once on its way, however, it is like a train. Lots of 3 series BMWs have been modified, so there's no guarantee it wasn't chipped, etc. It's pretty easy to raise HP to about 210-220. Subjectively, I find myself travelling much more quickly in the Aero, with less effort, than the bimmer, but not such nice sounds (I miss the straight six howl).
