Temporary Fix - Heater Core Hose

A week ago this past Thursday my heater core hose nightmare began on my 87 9000S. The end of the hose that attaches to the front side of the engine split open 4 hours before I had to pick a friend up at the airport. I trimmed the hose and reclamped. It held until Tuesday, until it leaked again. I trimmed and reclamped. It leaked twice more before I found a temporary fix. I went to AutoZone. The guy found a hose p/n #3044. The hose, $3.99, looked big enough to fit over the fitting on the engine and had a 90 degree bend in it. At Home Depot I found a 1" to 3/4" copper coupler, $1.30. I trimmed the new hose about 4 to 5 inches back on the straight part. Some silicone spray helped the 1" end of the coupler fit the new hose, and silicone spray helped the 3/4" end fit the old heater hose, now trimmed to fit the new configuration. Two extra clamps on the larger hose and one on the smaller end of the coupler, and it is done. I will replace both hoses, but in the meantime this appears to be a good temporary fix. Just an idea that might help another 9000 owner. I'll be ordering the new hoses this week for $20 ea. The hoses aren't expensive. Putting them in could be another matter. Take care, and I hope this helps someonelse.
