I currently have a 92 9000T (performance similar to your 91 CD T) and a 2001 9^5. Based on my experience you will get vastly improved ride and noise characteristics in a new 9^5. But unless you get the Aero it may not be quicker. 91s and 92s are VERY quick due to their low gearing.
Because you have a CD not a 5-door you will not have the disappointment that many 9000 drivers have re giving up hauling capacity.
