If the alternator is dead, you won't be able to make it far even with a fresh battery. If the brushes are worn, you might be able to get some extra juice by driving it in a lower gear than normal, keeping the RPMs up.
As far as the alarm. I think the 92 may have a different alarm then my 91, but, I'm sure the general cause is the same. After the battery dies, or is unplugged or whatever, you need to reset the alarm. On the 1990, you do this by turning the key in the driver door 3 times to the left. It may or not be the same in yours, but just look in your glovebox for the manual. Good luck. I replaced my alternator recently, but you should know that you may be able to get away with just replacing the brushes, if that the problem.
