The trough method won't work, cus every return stroke of the pedal will suck air back into the cylinder, defeating the purpose of bleeding.
The hoses seal to the flare fitting of the metal lines, so no gaskets are required. Be sure to replace the hoses first before working on the master. If you do the hoses second, then all of the fluid from the master will just drain out again, causing you to have to bleed everything a second time.
