Bruce,
I highly recommend the muffler i put on my car! The sound is awesome! I was very worried that i wouldnt be able to hear the radio due to the muffler being too loud especially with removing the cat, but the exhaust really isnt that much louder than stock. At idle you can tell there is a slight added grumble and the same while running at a constant rpm. It is only when you get above 3K rpm and under a load that you can really hear the difference....Much thoatier. As for the exact muffler i used....It was either Borla part # 40981 or 40658. I cant find the reciept for it at the moment or i would tell you exactly which one it was. Either way there is only a 3/4 inch length differnece in the two and both would work. Installation was relatively easy considering some of the other nuisances i have delt with on this car. Did take about 2/3 of a day to get everything hanging correctly though. What i ended up doing was using the same initial bends to the muffler as an 87 turbo(it was our parts car) and used the first part of the tailpipe. The tailpipe from that car is also larger than the stock 79...2 1/4 instead of 2. At just behind the rear wheel i cut the pipe off and will do something custom to get the tailpipe to look correct. Havent quite gotten there yet but will soon. The 87 goes way too far out to the side and hangs too low. Anyway I encourage you to put one on your car...i was very impressed with the sound.
