Your best bet is to get ahold of the wiring diagram - there are two sources that can "fire" the cold start injector. Keep in mind that both sources provide 12V and that ground is provided through the thermo-time switch located in the intake manifold. That switch should open the ground either after 8 seconds of cranking (as mentioned in the previous post) or when the coolant gets warm.
Source #1 of voltage is from the starter motor solenoid terminal as mentioned. Source #2 is from the vacuum impulse contact (the black plastic "can" mounted on the radiator and hooked up to a vacuum line). That function is to momentarily "pulse" the cold start injector to provide a "tip in enrichment" ("pump shot" to you carb guys) when the engine is cold. That function also stops when the thermo-time switch gets warm and opens the ground.
I'm going by fairly old memory on all this, so a wiring diagram is definitely what you want, but that is basically how it works.
