The Return Line Check Valve in my 99T started leaking 4-5 years ago and was temporarily replaced with a double-ended barbed nipple. I recently replaced it with a NOS Saab check valve (8328601) that I had gotten in some grab-bag of parts I purchased at SOC, for the first time in literally decades, that car doesn't leak fuel either outside or inside the car :-)
Last night I was bleeding the brakes in the 99 EMS (having finally gotten the new Master Cylinder installed in that) and I determined that check valve is also leaking (I thought I smelled gas coming from somewhere....)externally. I am wondering if this might be a part that's susceptible to ethanol, although I've run my 99s on E10 for 20 years and not seen any problems, so it is more likely that they are just old!
Anyhow, I'll pull the EMS check valve off and measure it carefully. I'd like to find a workable replacement - it is a legitimate safety feature, I guess it's nice to have the fuel stay in the tank should you manage to get the shiny side down at some point.
If anyone can check that part number, it could be one of those parts they used for 25 years that's miraculously still available? Who knows. I'll also check NAPA and McMaster.
Cheers,
Gary
