Please contact me on how you solved the following problems.
Let me back up and explain what my issue is.
I have a 1972 Saab 99. It's always had a B engine-single carb in it, though a while ago it had a 73-74 ish transmission in it.
years ago that transmission exploded, and the only thing I had was a 76. I installed it with that engine, moved the carbs over.
subsequently I realized that the wider 76 transmission meant I had to use the later 99 axles and Girling brakes.
However the brake lines were not an exact match, the threads of the older style being SAE and the newer metric. I fabricated little short pipes on the front brakes that jumped from SAE to metric.
NOw I'm at a point where all the calipers are pretty much no good and all the flexible brake lines are clogged/constricted. Being as they're the original male/male SAE, I can't find them anywhere. Plus the SAE lines that screw into the rear calipers are -if I can explain it right- bubble flare fitting, like male metric, but male SAE. All male SAE pipes I've found are a simple flare fitting that isn't bubble flare.
I'm quite happy to convert the rear brakes to something metric, so I can use metric pipes for all the flex lines (since it's easy to get various metric flex lines), even it it means I end up fabricating a bracket on the rear axle or whatever. Then for the rear brakes I can use metric ATE calipers. I have learned that earlier VW type 3 front brakes are the same calipers except metric (which means you can get the brake lines anywhere). I don't mind if the switch from SAE to metric is somewhere under the rear seat.
How did you overcome the thread change?
