I don't think there's any problem with the wheels spinning - there is a certain amount of internal drag due to the oil between the various parts in the gearbox. I have seen the same thing in the past. As far as noise, gear noise/whine is not a cause for concern typically. A high-pitched whine could be a bearing which is cause for concern. In the later gearboxes the chain drive primary tends to "growl" which is also not a cause for concern.
