Hello James,
Good to hear from you! On the brake lights, I would suggest first just doing the "fuse roll" and making sure that the fuse and holder are clean and tight. You should have voltage coming to the switch at the pedal regardless of the ignition switch position. Then you can make sure that when you press the pedal that you get voltage on the other side of the switch. Then you can look for voltage at the back of the car. I don't remember exactly where the ground for the rear lights is, but I'm pretty sure it's in the trunk somewhere; you should be able to find it if you follow the wiring; make sure that is tight and not corroded.
