I have a fix... Posted by JohnT [Email] (#1654) [Profile/Gallery] (more from JohnT) on Thu, 12 Feb 2004 18:49:14 In Reply to: Fuel level sender p/n for plastic gas tank..., Cutic, Thu, 12 Feb 2004 10:08:22 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I have repaired 2 of these senders, if we are talking about the same one. I'm talking about the one used in both the 1980 900 and 99 and I'm not sure what else. I will check my parts list when I get home.
Anyway, the sender consists of a length of resistance wire coiled around a flat curved plastic piece. The wire wears through and the sender quits working above the fuel level that corresponds to the break in the wire. You can take apart the sender without damaging it and rewind the wire. I found the proper resistance wire but had to buy it in quantity. I just happen to have some extra... :)
It is a bit painstaking but the repair works quite well. It's also *much* cheaper than a new sender even if you could find one.
Contact me off list if you want some wire.
