How to rotate engine to TDC Posted by Reed R [Email] (#1557) [Profile/Gallery] (more from Reed R) on Tue, 1 Aug 2023 11:35:57 Members do not see ads below this line. - Help Keep This Site Online - Signup |
I'm trying to do a leak down test on my 1974 99LE, but am having a devil of a time trying to get the pistons at TDC.
It's an automatic, so I can't put it in gear and push the car to get there (which seems to be the preferred method).
It looks like using the crank pulley bolt is the next option, but there is so little clearance between the crank pulley and the firewall that I can't get a wrench or socket onto the bolt. The sheet metal screws through the firewall don't help either.
Does anyone have any tips or tricks on how to get a tool onto the bolt or some other way to rotate the engine? Also, what size should I expect the bolt head to be? I've seen both 30mm and 27mm referenced as the correct size.
