I can't decide if I am stoked or choked. As I'm (still) going into the paint phase of my '77 ems, I talked to a shop that was willing to R&R the front and rear glass, assuring me that they would re-use the rubber seal and replace the old worn out inner strip with something that could be retro fitted.

Since the glass will be out, I figured I might as well replace the headliner since it would now be so accessible. Plus there has always been a really strong glue smell if it is in the sun too long, and I wanted to investigate. So I'm taking the old headliner out and what to my wondering eyes should appear...but a welded up FACTORY SUNROOF! [I always thought this 99 was a little shy on the headroom, but thinking it was just the height of the seats, didn't look any further!!]

Apparently, one of the PO's had welded the sunroof shut and did body work on the exterior roof to hide it, then covered the interior with ceiling fabric - a very convincing job I must say! Now looking closer on the outside, I can barely make out the outline of the sunroof at just the right angle. Very wierd - why would someone do this? Too lazy to fix a leaky roof? Didn't like the sunshine beaming in from above? I don't get it.

Now I'm wondering what kind of a Pandora's Box I'd be getting into to try and revive this super cool option that I was thinking of installing down the road anyway. From underneath, everything seems to be intact. Is there built in wind deflector lip on the 99 body like the 900?

Strange what you find if you dig a little!
